The Fort Worth Opera recently announced its 79th season featuring productions inspired by the women who founded the company as well as the opera’s rich history of promoting contemporary American works.

The season, which is the company’s 79th, will feature two mainstage productions, one early in the season and the other serving as a finale. The first will take place in November 2024, as Mark Adamo’s Little Women will hit the stage at the W.E. Scott Theatre. The second will be in April 2025, as the company brings fully staged opera back to Bass Hall with Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella).

A familiar favorite takes on a different look this weekend at Bass Performance Hall as Fort Worth Opera presents a "semi-staged" production of Puccini's La Boheme.

To start the third season of his podcast, The Engel Angle, Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Mac Engel has world-renowned opera tenor Alok Kumar as a guest. They discuss whether Kumar wants his daughter pursuing his line of work, if any audience member can trust what they see in a live performance, and how he wants to die.

For the penultimate production of Fort Worth Opera’s 2023/2024 season, General & Artistic Director Angela Turner Wilson has chosen one of the most enchanting operas in the traditional repertory: Giacomo Puccini’s 1896 masterpiece, La Bohème.

Ballet Folklorico dancers and mariachi music don’t normally go hand-in-hand when most people talk about opera, but that’s just one example of what the 79th season of the Fort Worth Opera has in store. It’s enough info to cause some excitement,  and no one is more excited about the upcoming roster of performances than FWO’s general and artistic director Angela Turner Wilson.

Fort Worth Opera has announced its 2023-24 season.

Often given up for dead in recent years, the Fort Worth Opera appears to be in revival mode. A series of miscast executive directors have come and (fortunately) gone, and the company is now in the able hands of Angela Turner Wilson. She is an experienced singer and producer, but perhaps best of all, she is well-known and admired locally.

On Friday night, in its first Bass Performance Hall apperance since a 2002 La Traviata, the company presents that other tearjerker about a tubercular aoprano, La Bohème.

The Fort Worth Opera will perform Giacomo Puccini’s 1896 masterpiece, La Bohème, at Bass Hall on April 5 and 7.

The Fort Worth Opera production will be semi-staged, with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The vocal cast will include Elizabeth Caballero (soprano) as Mimì, Alok Kumar (tenor) as Rodolfo, Daniel Scofield (baritone) as Marcello, Meigui Zhang (soprano) as Musetta, Michael Colman (bass) as Schaunard and Kofi Hayford (bass) as Colline.
