Want to be in an opera, but can’t sing?
No problem; we often use extras in our shows. Our needs vary from opera to opera and we use a variety of ages, sizes and sexes, but remember casting a show is often very specific due to the demands of the costume, director, or show itself. The time commitment would include a few weeknights and weekends for rehearsals, plus the productions themselves. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the form below and we’ll contact you as needed.
We will have auditions/casting on March 15, 2008 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. If you are interested in a certain part, you should definitely plan on attending and feel free to bring interested friends and spouses, we will gladly welcome new faces into our super family. The supers we need are the following:TURANDOT
These requests are specific due to the design of the costumes. We need... (10) Male Guards: 5'10"- 6'1" Strong, Slim, Clever and must attend ALL chorus rehearsals, as they are onstage throughout the show. They need to be able to carry people offstage. (6) Executioner Assistants (TUMBLERS AND JUGGLERS): Must be muscular/athletic men as the costume is a loin cloth on an athletic supporter as well as a mask. They must be able to do several acrobatic moves with precision. A knife juggler or two would also be VERY helpful. (6) Moon Maidens: These are dancer type women who must be able to move gracefully and with very stylized movement. Ballet would be helpful. (10) Super Priests: 5'6" - 5' 10" Can be men or women- Must have boyish figures very small hips and slim as the costume base is a leotard. (1) Prince of Persia: The Prince must be a tall, slim, young man with a swimmers build, graceful, perhaps a dancer. Wears a partially transparent costume and has a brief but important entrance. (1) Executioner A huge, tall, Samurai wrestler type, wears very little who must act and move well.Rehearsal period approximately May 1 through 13. In addition, attendance will be mandatory on May 14, 16 & 17 (7-11pm), May 20 & 21 (6-11pm). Performances are May 24 (8pm), June 1 (2pm) and June 6 (8pm).
OF MICE AND MEN
We need...
(1) Dog: Candy's Dog is a very old pooch who has seen much better days. Due to his offensive stink, the other characters make Candy shoot the dog to put it (and themselves) out of misery. The dog must be well trained, used to people, and quiet when not on stage. He is NOT "shot" onstage.ANGELS IN AMERICA
We need...
(10) Angel Assistants: The AAs can be men of any age, but must be muscular/athletic in build. Their costumes are tight fighting to show off their build (Mesh shirts, fatigue pants, black boots). The AAs are background players who must be able to convey a character and roll some scene pieces around during shifts. There are four daytime rehearsals with the rest on evenings and weekends. The AA's are used a great deal in the show, so preference will be given to men who can make all rehearsals.Rehearsal period approximately April 26 through May 12. In addition, attendance will be mandatory on May 13 (7-11pm) & May 14 (2-7pm). Performances are May 16 (8pm), May 18 (2pm), May 24 & 28 (8pm), May 31 (2pm), June 4 (8pm) and June 7 (2pm).
If you are interested in participating as a super, please fill out the form below so that we may contact you once we have specific information and possible casting.
If you are a returning Super, or have already registered, and you meet the requirements above, please send an email to kurt@fwopera.org and tell us which roles you would like to be considered for.
